Self-Guided Walking Tour – From Silves to Sagres

Day 1 – Arrival in Silves
Upon arrival, a transfer will take you to your hotel in Silves, the starting point of this self-guided walking holiday in Portugal. Silves was once the capital of the Algarve, a fact reflected in its elegant manor houses and impressive red sandstone castle.

Day 2 – Circular Walk around Silves
Time to lace up your walking boots! From Silves, you enjoy a scenic walk through unspoilt countryside and small rural villages. On the return route, you walk along quiet country lanes and through fragrant orange groves.

Day 3 – Walk from Silves to Monchique
After breakfast, a transfer takes you into the mountains for a hike towards Picota, the second-highest peak of the Serra de Monchique, offering spectacular panoramic views. Monchique is especially known as a wellness destination thanks to its natural springs.

Day 4 – Coastal Walk to Lagos
After breakfast, we depart for Praia da Luz, where today’s coastal walk begins. Enjoy stunning views of small seaside villages as you follow the coastline past the famous Ponta da Piedade, before finishing at your hotel in Lagos.

Day 5 – Walk near Salema
After breakfast, a transfer brings you to the starting point of today’s walk. You begin in the wetlands of Budens, a rich habitat for a wide variety of bird species, offering a very different landscape.From there, you climb up onto the cliffs and follow the coastal path past medieval fortresses and Roman ruins towards Salema. Don’t forget to look for the flat stones on the beach containing fossilised dinosaur footprints.

Day 6 – Walk through Cabo de São Vicente Natural Park
Following ancient coastal paths and passing sandy coves, you walk through the Cabo de São Vicente Natural Park towards Sagres, where you will stay for the final two nights.Sagres lies at the extreme southwest of Europe. The village’s name comes from the word “Sagrado”, meaning “sacred.” The dramatic cliffs plunging into the ocean and the unspoilt beaches create a truly spectacular landscape.

Day 7 – Walk to Cabo de São Vicente
Today you walk towards the “end of the world,” as the Romans once called Cabo de São Vicente, the southwesternmost point of Europe. This iconic headland is famous for its towering cliffs and wild Atlantic Ocean.

Day 8 – Departure
From Sagres, a transfer takes you to Faro Airport for your return flight.
